Display

However, I had hoped for a more up-to-date selection of panels here. Instead, Lenovo continues to offer the same IPS panel (illustrated below) that it has previously offered, which has the same 500 nits of brightness, 1300:1 contrast, 100% sRGB color coverage, VRR 165-240Hz refresh rate, and 3 ms response time.

Response Time

This is not terrible, but it also cannot compete with the picture quality of the panels given by the competition, whether they are top-tier miniLED alternatives or their mid-tier IPS offerings (IPS, 500+ nits, 100% DCI-P3, 240Hz 3ms).

Performance

On one side, the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i may be configured with an RTX 4090 Laptop 16GB dGPU at 175W and an Intel Core i9-13900HX CPU with 8PC+16EC and 32 Threads. Support for up to DDR5-6000 memory (up to 64 GB, with 2x DIMMs), 4TB of storage (2x gen4 drives), and a 99.9 Wh battery round out the specifications. On both variations, there is a MUX with Advanced Optimus.

Graphics Card

As with the previous RTX 4000 full-power laptops of this generation, the Nvidia GPUs will continue to run in this configuration at up to 175W, so up to 60W may be set up for the CPU. These Legion Pros are nearly as potent as the most potent full-size 17 or 18-inch laptops made by competing companies, which have sustained power ratings of 250W @ 235W. These laptops shouldn’t run hotter or louder than the Legion 7s of the previous generation if the thermal module can handle the increase in power.

Machine Learning

On its 2023 Legion laptops, Lenovo incorporates a Legion AI processor that uses machine learning algorithms to automatically optimize Vantage performance without the need for user input. Gigabyte laptops have already incorporated comparable AI software, so I’m interested to see how Lenovo will go now, some years later. I wouldn’t anticipate the AI to do anything that couldn’t be accomplished by manually adjusting things, but it may enhance the performance of some apps and games in a more straightforward and smooth manner.

Tobi Horizon

The Tobii Horizon technology included with these laptops is the other factor. It enables gearless head tracking in a few programs and games, as seen in the video below. Since it was included with the earlier Legion 7 computers, this is not a unique feature.
